This disclosure explains the commercial relationship that may exist when BetterPowered connects a property owner with a participating contractor.
Your contractor choice
You may use a BetterPowered plan with a contractor you choose. You are not required to request a match, accept a match, obtain a proposal, or hire through the BetterPowered network. Contractor matching is free for property owners.
How BetterPowered may be compensated
If you choose to hire a participating contractor, BetterPowered may receive a referral fee, commission, marketing fee, platform fee, or other compensation from that contractor. The form and amount can vary by contractor, trade, project, and agreement. You do not owe BetterPowered that contractor-paid compensation unless a separate written agreement with you expressly says otherwise.
This financial relationship is a reason to evaluate a contractor's proposal on its own merits. Compare scope, product, price, financing, schedule, license and insurance information, warranties, and alternatives before deciding.
How matching works
Matches are based on available information such as trade, project type, property location, scope, timing, and contractor availability. Service coverage can vary by discipline and territory, and a match may not be available for every request.
What “participating” or “vetted” means
BetterPowered reviews information relevant to participation and project fit. Depending on the trade and project, that review may include business identity, trade alignment, licensing or insurance evidence, service territory, availability, and process readiness. A review is not a guarantee of future performance and does not replace your own evaluation.
Who is responsible for the project
Unless a separate written agreement expressly states otherwise, BetterPowered is not the installer and is not a party to the project contract. The contractor is responsible for its proposal, licensing, insurance, design, products, permits, labor, site safety, code compliance, schedule, financing offers, warranties, and completion of the work. Questions or claims about installation should be directed to the responsible contractor, while BetterPowered may help route or document a concern.
Recommendations and matching
The property plan is created before contractor matching. You decide which recommendations become projects. BetterPowered may consider project fit and available contractors when helping with execution, but the commercial relationship means you should not interpret contractor matching as a claim that no other qualified contractor or solution exists.
